Cameno Island Foundation Repair
The Problem
We did an evaluation for a home owner on Cameno Island, who desired a new basement with eight foot ceilings. The foundation had settled significantly and required removal and repalcement with a deep peir foundation under it.
The Solution
We met with our client to understand the scope of the situation. They were looking for a contractor who could remove and install a new foundation to achieve their goal of an eight-foot-high basement ceiling while also preventing the house from sliding down the hill.
We worked with our team to lift the entire home, remove the old foundation, and complete additional excavation for the new one.
Partnering with a structural engineer and geotechnical expert, we designed a deep pier foundation and structural build-back for the new basement.
We installed 41 two-inch pin piles to a depth of 25 feet, along with five helical tiebacks featuring eight- and ten-inch helices driven to a depth of 15 feet. These were anchored to two corner pin piles and two interior pin piles on the downslope west wall.
Permitting is another critical part of the process—foundation work cannot begin without the proper permits. We helped our client navigate the permitting process to ensure everything was in place before work began.
Once the plan was finalized and permits were secured, we drove the piles into the ground. For this project, we used 41 pin piles around the perimeter of the house and at key interior load points, ensuring the home is permanently secured and foundation issues are resolved for good.
The Results
41 piles and five helical anchors later, we successfully created a new and stable basement foundation for our client. As a part of any job, we guarantee our installation per the engineer’s drawings and the geotechs observation. It means as a homeowner yo have the peace of mind knowing the stabalization of the hillside meets the requirements that the engineer and geotech drew up.
